ECO-ENZYME WORKSHOP: Eco-Enzyme for Green and Sustainable Environment

The Conservation and Biological Resources Study Centre (KSDH) of Universitas Islam Negeri Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, on Thursday (16/06/2022), held an Eco-enzyme Workshop with the theme "Eco-enzyme For Green and Sustainable Environment". Based on the report from the Chair of the Workshop Committee, Bayu Kurniawan, S.Si., M.Sc., and also as the Chair of the KSDH Study Centre, this event was attended by 318 participants from various universities in Indonesia ranging from Western to Eastern part of Indonesia. The implementation of this workshop is expected to be used as a reference for the wider community in overcoming the problem of organic waste. Based on research conducted in one of the provinces in Indonesia, it shows that the production of organic and inorganic waste as much as 470 tons/day with a ratio of 77% organic waste and 23% inorganic waste with an increasing trend of waste production as much as 8% per day. Of course, this is an important homework to deal with waste. The Eco Enzyme Workshop is expected to be able to become a training for the wider community as a solution to waste problems. Sorted waste from the household scale becomes the basis for reducing direct waste into the Ecosystem and becomes a product with Economic value.

This activity was carried out online and was officially opened by the Chancellor of UIN STS Jambi Prof. Dr. Su'aidi, M.A., Ph.D.

“This event is very important as a support for the visions and missions of UIN STS Jambi and through this activity it is hoped that we can increase public awareness to maintain environmental quality so as to create a better human civilization. Similar activities will continue to be carried out as an effort to advance UIN STS Jambi and it is proven that currently UIN STS Jambi is ranked 26th as the best campus in Indonesia according to the Time Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022," said the Rector of UIN STS Jambi in his opening remarks.

This activity was divided into two sessions which will be led by Syukrya Ningsih, M.Sc. The material for the first session was delivered by Dr. Hj. Fadlilah, M.Pd., the Dean of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at UIN STS Jambi; and Dr. Dian Masita Dewi, S.E., M.M. from the Center for Eco-Enzyme Studies at Lambung Mangkurat University. In the second session, the material was delivered by Dr. Ir. Nurzainah Ginting, M.Sc., the Chair of the National Eco-Enzyme UI GreenMetric (University of North Sumatra); and Siska Alicia Farma, S.Pd., M.Biomed from the Center of Research on Recycling and Organic Waste Management, Padang State University.

The conclusion that can be drawn from the presentation of the four presenters is "Eco-Enzyme has enormous benefits in various fields of life, starting from cleaning, detergent replacement, beauty, antimicrobial, animal husbandry to overcoming various health problems. However, it has the biggest challenge in raising public awareness to start applying Eco-Enzyme in their daily life”.
