Benchmarking QS World University Rankings to University of Indonesia

UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi has visited Universitas Indonesia for a Benchmarking to strengthen the institutions relationship as well as discussing about the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings (Tuesday, February 14th 2023).

The Rector, Vice Rector, and the QS WUR teams of UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi were welcomed by Head of TREM Bureau, Vishnu juwono, M.I.A., Ph.D. and also the Head of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure Bureau, Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Si) at the meeting room of rectorate building of Universitas Indonesia.

The International rankings like QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings and THE World University Rankings are handled by the TREM Bureau who directly manage and analyse them.

The Rector of UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, Prof. Dr. Su’aidi, M.A. Ph.D. emphasized that the university rankings have affected the UIN in many aspects especially in improving the quality and the campus image as well as encouraging the Study Program and University Acreditation.

Furthermore, Ms. Rahmi, S.Hum., M.Sc., Ph.D. as the Head of UI’s Ranking Management Subdivision has shared the procedures and indicators rated in QS WUR detailly. She stated that the higher the ranking acquired the better it is for the study program accreditation since the indicators between the two are highly related.

There are 9 indicators being assessed in the QS WUR such as:

  1. Academic Reputation
  2. Employer Reputation
  3. Faculty/Student Ratio
  4. International Faculty Ratio
  5. International Student Ratio
  6. International Research Network
  7. Employment Outcomes
  8. Sustainability

Based on what the UI International Ranking Teams have explained alongside the achievements of UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi; such as THE Impact Ranking, UI Green Metric, and UNESA Dimetric; they are optimist that UIN has a high potential to join the QS WUR in 2024. Especially, UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi has many foreign graduate lecturers as this is one of the aspects graded in the QS WUR.

In Indonesia, there are only 16 Higher Education who participated in the QS WUR, among them such as Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Institut Teknologi Bandung which has always been competing in big 3 highest ranking since 2014.

UIN participation in this QS WUR is expected to improve the international achievement and increase the future freshmen in UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi.
