KSDH Study Centre Attending the Agenda by the Directorate of Species and Genetic Diversity Conservation and Ministry of Environment and Forestry

The head of the Conservation and Biological Resources Study Centre (KSDH), Bayu Kurniawan, S.Si., M.Sc., attended an agenda held by the Directorate of Species and Genetic Diversity Conservation, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on Monday, 12th 2022 via a zoom meeting.

This agenda is a response to the CITES notification proposing 2 bird species that fall into the CITES Appendix category, specifically, 1) Pycnonotus zeylanicus (from the position of Appendix 2 rose to Appendix 1 proposed by Singapore); 2) Kittacincla malabarica (from non-Appendix rose to Appendix 2 proposed by Malaysia).

This agenda is also a form of responds from CITES toward the proposals from the two countries to raise the appendix status which regulate the international trade of these species.

Results of this agenda becomes very crucial for the economic and ecological impact to the observers, practitioners, and especially for the animals themselves.

The analysis and supporting data became a serious concern before being brought to the Nineteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties at the Panama Convention Centre, Panama to determine the status of the two species.
